PSD Regular Board Meeting Highlights - November 26, 2024

Tuesday, November 26, 2024 - The Board of Trustees is pleased to share with all education stakeholders the highlights of our recent Board meeting held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. The adopted minutes will be available on our website following the next Regular Board meeting.
Update:
- The board approved the Audited Financial Statement for the year ending August 31, 2024. PSD ended the fiscal year with an operating surplus of $2.4-million. Revenue for the year was $156.4-million, while operating expenses were $154-million.
- The 2023-2024 Annual Education Results Report was approved. It showed the previous year's achievement on each of the board's locally developed assurance outcomes and on Alberta Education's Business Plan outcomes. The report showed revenues over the previous year saw an increase of $8,121,829 or 5.5 per cent. It also showed 76.3 per cent ($117,514,662) of total funds were spent directly on students.
- The Board approved the Revised Board Policy 7: Board Operations. Meanwhile, Board Policy 8: Board Committees and Representation has been deferred back to the Policy Committee for further review.
- The Board received as information the 2024-2025 Fall Forecast. The information showed revenues are $159.7-million, an increase of 1.1 per cent from the budget. The forecasted expenditures are $159.1-million, an increase of 0.6 per cent from the budget. The increases in revenues and expenses are due to adjusting the revenues due to grant rate increases offset by decrease in Weighted Moving Average (WMA) enrolments from budget. PSD forecasts a surplus of $602,000 compared to a deficit of $250,000 in the budget.
- The Board approved the appointment of Eva Beyer as the Returning Officer and Barb Williams as the Substitute Returning Officer for Parkland School Division for the 2025 Local Election. Both work for Parkland County.
- The Board approved sending Board Chair Stewart to participate as part of the delegation for the Town of Stony Plain / Town of Shikaoi Celebration in Japan in April 2025, by allocating $2,500 from the Governance professional development budget to support this trip. The Town of Stony Plain has already committed to cover half of the costs of the trip.
- Mr. John Blood recently announced his retirement as Director of Transportation for Parkland School Division and Superintendent, Shauna Boyce announced the appointment of Gail Lewis as the new Director of Transportation Services, effective January 2, 2024.
- The Board received as information the Community Partnerships Report, describing the work of building healthy and sustainable relationships with partners across the region.
The next Regular Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 1pm.
