August 26, 2025 - The 2025-2026 school year is about to get underway and now is the perfect time for a refresher on some of the rules of riding a school bus. Parkland School Division wants to remind parents what their children are allowed to bring on the bus for a trip to and from school.

Carry on items are allowed but space is limited and the maximum allowable dimensions for approved carry on are 33 centimeters (cm) x 33 cm x 59 cm and must be able to fit on a student's lap. Any loose items must be in a sealed bag or case.

The aisles of the school bus and emergency exits must remain clear at all times as per Alberta Transportation regulations. The regulations state that any larger items that cannot be secured are considered hazardous and must be transported in a separate vehicle.

Some of these items not allowed include hockey or ringette sticks, golf clubs, snowboards, toboggans, scooters, longboards and skateboards.

If you have any questions about what is or isn't allowed on a school bus you can check the Student Transportation Guide or contact the Transportation Office at 780-963-8452.
