The Board of Trustees is pleased to share with all education stakeholders the highlights of our recent Board meeting held virtually on Tuesday, September 14, 2021. The adopted minutes will be available on our website following the next Regular Board meeting.

Update:

  • The Board approved the revised Board Policy 8: Board Committees (Board Policy Committee).
  • The Board approved the Board Legacy Document (2017 - 2021). The Board Legacy Document (2017-2021) provides the context of events, economics, government agencies, and much more, at the time of this Board taking office. It also summarizes some of the work initiated by this Board and many of the accomplishments during their term.
  • The Board approved a recommendation to urge the Minister of Education to consider extending
    the current timeline for the implementation of the Draft K-6 Curriculum and furthermore, to also urge the Minister of Education to consider rewriting the Draft K-6 Curriculum prior to beginning the pilot process for integrating new curriculum content.
  • The Board approved a recommendation that the Board of Trustees direct the Board Chair to advocate to the Government of Alberta to immediately reimplement identification and contact tracing in Alberta schools.
  • The Board approved to plan and implement public awareness measures to inform stakeholders of the continuing authority of the Superintendent to institute additional mask use requirements pursuant to the Parkland School Division Mask Protocol.
  • The Board received as information the Indigenous Education Report as presented by Associate Superintendent, Scott Johnston, Division Principal, Kathy Mann and Indigenous Facilitator, TJ Gladstone. The comprehensive report identifies key objectives for education planning:
    • Improving our understanding and representation of Indigenous culture to foster a sense of belonging and identity; 

    • Supporting educational achievement among Indigenous students;

    • Improving the well-being of Indigenous students; 

    • Increasing the participation and engagement of Indigenous students and families in education; and 

    • Establishing stronger relationships through effective collaboration with our Indigenous community partners.

  • The Board received as information the Facilities Summer Work Report as presented by Director, Serge LaBrie.
  • The Board received as information the Human Resources Report as presented by Director, Shae Abba.
  • The Board received as information the COVID Measures Survey Results report.

 

The 2021-2022 Organizational Meeting will be held virtually, on Tuesday, October 29, 2021. This will be the first meeting of a new Board of Trustees following the municipal election. This will be followed by the next Regular Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2021 at 10:00 a.m., (Board meetings will be hosted virtually until further notice.)
