Wednesday, June 19, 2024 - The Board of Trustees is pleased to share with all education stakeholders the highlights of our recent Board meeting held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024.

The adopted minutes will be available on our website following the next Regular Board meeting:

  • During the Board's Organizational Meeting for the 2024-2025 school year held in June, by acclamation, the Board re-elected Ward 2 trustee Lorraine Stewart as Board Chair and elected Aimee Hennig as Vice-Chair. Both will take the Oath-of-office at September's regular meeting.
  • The Board appointed members as representatives to Committees for the 2024-2025 school year. Trustees will for committees as follows: 
    • Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) Zone 2/3 - Jill Osborne, Aileen Wagner
    • Alberta Teachers' Association (ATA) Labour Relations - Jill Osborne, Aileen Wagner, Lorraine Stewart (Alternate)
    • Audit Committee - Eric Cameron, Anne Montgomery, Aimee Hennig
    • Benefit Plan Advisory Committee - Paul McCann
    • Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Labour Relations - Aileen Wagner, Lorraine Stewart, Paul McCann (Alternate)
    • Council of School Councils (COSC) - Paul McCann
    • International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Labour Relations - Aimee Hennig, Paul McCann, Lorraine Stewart (Alternate)

  • The Board approved the Board Remuneration for the 2024-2025 school year. 
  • The Board approved the 2024 - 2025 Meeting Dates
  • The Board approved the 2024-2025 Board Annual Work Plan
  • In a decisive move, the Parkland School Division’s (PSD) Board of Trustees has unanimously passed a recommendation during their June 18th Regular Board Meeting, addressing the complications surrounding the construction of the new $100 million dollar Spruce Grove Composite High School (SGCHS). The resolution emphasizes the need to separate the Horizon Stage from the consent required to begin the school's construction.
  • The Board approved the 2023-2024 Third Quarter Financial Report and Forecast. The financial statement included within this package is for the nine months ended May 31, 2024. 
    As of May 31, 2024, revenues year to date were $119.8M and expenditures year to date were $117.5M resulting in a surplus of $2.3M. A surplus of $2.4M is currently forecast for the year ended August 31, 2024. Approximately $1.8M will be transferred to capital to support projects in the current and future years. The Division is projecting an operating reserve before school generated funds of $5.0M at August 31, 2024.
  • The Board received as information the Strategic Communications Department Report as presented by Director, Strategic Communications, Jordi Weidman.
  • The Board received as information the Indigenous Perspectives and Ways of Knowing Report as presented by Division Principal, Northern & Indigenous Relations, Dean Bernard and Indigenous Education Facilitator Leanne Traverse.
  • The Board received as information the Fine Arts in Schools Report as presented by Division Principal, Literacy and Lifelong Learning, Linda Madge-Arkinstall.

The next regular board meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at 9 a.m.
