PSD Regular Board Meeting Highlights - June 17, 2025

Tuesday, June 17, 2025 - The Board of Trustees is pleased to share with all education stakeholders the highlights of our recent Board meeting held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. The adopted minutes will be available on our website following the next Regular Board meeting.
Update:
- The Board welcomed Principal of Memorial Composite High School, Mr. Corey Haley for a presentation marking a ceremony held in Shikaoi, Japan dedicating Memorial Composite High School in Stony Plain as a sister school to Shikaoi High School.
- The Board approved Revised Board Policy 17: Student Transportation Services.
- The Board approved three recommendations on The Student Conduct Ad Hoc Committee:
- That the Board of Trustees continue to advocate to the provincial government for a collaborative and comprehensive approach to address classroom complexity through cross ministerial approaches to support families and students with input from local school boards.
- That the Board of Trustees dialogue with the Alberta School Boards' Association to determine progress on previously approved Position Statements on Cross Ministerial Collaboration.
- That the Student Conduct Ad Hoc Committee provide a summary report and thanks to the Alberta School Boards' Association and Public School Boards Association of Alberta and thereafter be disbanded no later than September 1, 2025.
- The Board approved the Third Quarter Financial Report as presented by Associate Superintendent, Scott McFadyen and Director, Financial Services, Jason Krefting. As of May 31, 2025, revenues year to date were $118.6M and expenditures year to date were $121.3M resulting in a deficit of $2.6M. A surplus of $550K is currently forecast for the year ending August 31, 2025. Approximately $694K is proposed to be transferred to capital to support projects in the current and future years. The Division is projecting an operating reserve before school generated funds of $5.1M as of August 31, 2025.
- The Board received as information the Strategic Communications Department Report as presented by Director, Jordi Weidman.
- The Board received as information the Indigenous Perspectives and Ways of Knowing Report as presented by Division Principal, Dean Bernard.
- The Board received as information the Fine Arts in Schools Report as presented by Linda Madge-Arkinstall.
- The Board approved a recommendation that until the next Organization Meeting of the Board of Trustees, the Board empowers the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA) representative to vote on TEBA matters in a matter in which the representative believes is in the best interest of Parkland School Division.
The next Regular Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at 9am.
