2023-2024 Organizational Meeting

Organizational Meeting

• The Board hosted it's Organizational Meeting for the 2023-2024 school year. By acclamation, the Board re-elected Ward 2 trustee Lorraine Stewart as Board Chair and elected Aileen Wagner as Vice-Chair. 
• The Board appointed members as representatives to Committees for the 2023-2024 school year effective immediately. Trustees will for committees as follows: 
  • Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) Zone 2/3 - Jill Osborne, Lorraine Stewart
  • Alberta Teachers' Association (ATA) Labour Relations - Eric Cameron, Aimee Hennig, Paul McCann
  • Audit Committee - Eric Cameron, Anne Montgomery, Aileen Wagner
  • Benefit Plan Advisory Committee - Aileen Wagner
  • Central Alberta Association of Municipal and School Employees (CAAMSE) Labour Relations - Aileen Wagner, Paul McCann, Lorraine Stewart
  • Council of School Councils (COSC) - Jill Osborne
  • International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Labour Relations - Aimee Hennig, Paul McCann, Aileen Wagner

• The Board approved the Board Remuneration for the 2023-2024 school year. 
• The Board approved the 2023 - 2024 Meeting Dates. 
• The Board approved the 2023-2024 Board Annual Work Plan. 
• The Board approved the Trustee Disclosure Statement.

Regular Board Meeting

• The Board welcomed a delegation from a number of different schools that make up the Millstone Archery Team that competes in the National Archery in the Schools Program. The program aims to introduce archery as a sport to students in schools across various countries around the world. This is the first year that teams at Millgrove School and Greystone Centennial Middle School have combined. There are also athletes from Connections for Learning and Spruce Grove Composite High School.
• The Board approved the recommendation to support, in principle, the local Tri-Municipal bid for the 2026 Alberta Winter Games, with the caveat that further conversation is needed with the three municipalities regarding limitations and restrictions on what supports Parkland School Division could provide.
• The Board received as information the Quarterly Financial Report for the period ending May 31, 2023.
• The Board received as information the Stakeholder Engagement Report, as presented by Associate Superintendent, Scott M. Johnston.
• The Board received as information the Indigenous Education Report, as presented by Division Principals Shaye Patras and Dean Bernard as well as Indigenous Education Facilitator Geri Wu.
• The Board received as information the Fine Arts Report, as presented by Division Principal, Shaye Patras.
• The Board received as information the Technology Department Report, as presented by Director, Technology Services, Mark Karaki.

The next Regular Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at 9am.
