Friday, September 10, 2021 - Alberta school boards help shape the future of local communities by governing the education of young people. The provincial government, through the Minister of Education, grants school boards the authority to make decisions regarding the direction and quality of local public education. Accountability to the public is entrenched through the election of local school board trustees every four years.

Parkland School Division is looking for candidates for the upcoming election. The deadline to put your name forward or to nominate a candidate is Monday, September 20, 2021. Candidates wishing to submit their completed nomination package prior to Nomination Day will contact the Returning Officer by calling 780-999-0869 or by emailing Eva.beyer@parklandcounty.com.

Trustees Responsibilities

The key responsibility for trustees is to stay in touch with community stakeholders so that they understand and reflect in their decision-making, what all citizens value and want from their local public schools. It’s important to note that trustees do not represent any one school, neighbourhood or community. Rather, they make decisions based on the needs of the entire jurisdiction.

"I have found that  being a trustee over the past ten years has been a very exciting and
extremely worthwhile endeavor. This opportunity to serve the Ward 1 communities as well as the entire Parkland School Division  is a highly engaging and rewarding opportunity to represent students, parents and the greater community to  provide the best possible education for all of our learners." - Ron Heinrichs (Ward 1)

The annual salary of a school board trustee in Parkland School Division ranges from $31,828 - $44,848 depending on allowances for the roles of Board Chair or Vice-Chair.
