Alberta Teachers Reject Memorandum of Agreement

September 29, 2025 - (6:26pm) The vote is complete for the Alberta Teachers' Association as part of the ratification process between the ATA and the Teachers' Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA)
ATA members have rejected the tentative agreement. As a result, the ATA has indicated it will begin strike action on Monday, October 6, 2025.
Although the exact nature of labour action can change, its understood that the ATA will be initiating full strike action, effective October 6, 2025. This means that all Parkland School Division schools will be closed to students beginning October 6 until further notice. Families are encouraged to make alternate arrangements for child care and supervision.
It is important to note that Parkland School Division is a bystander in this provincial bargaining process. Central negotiations take place between the Government of Alberta, through TEBA, and the ATA. Like all Alberta school divisions, PSD must now prepare for the impact of this decision and ensure families are informed.
We anticipate that, during the planned strike action beginning October 6th:
- All teachers, school Principals and Assistant Principals will be a part of the strike and therefore not at work.
- No students would attend school.
- This is NOT a shift to at-home learning like the pandemic. Student instruction will pause for the duration of the strike.
- Schools will be locked even though there will be some activity inside including:
- Support staff reporting to work, and
- Community joint-use (which could include before and after school care operators or other outside organizations running programming).
PSD will continue to provide updates to our community as new information becomes available.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we manage the local impacts of this provincial bargaining process.
