Board, Centre for Education, Staffing Announcement

Wednesday, December 13, 2023 - A familiar face will continue leading Parkland School Division for the next five years. The Parkland School Division Board of Trustees has announced that Shauna Boyce would be reappointed to the position of superintendent of schools for the term beginning June 1, 2024 extending to May 21, 2029.

"Over the past five years, Superintendent Boyce has demonstrated fairness; compassion; strong visionary leadership, unwavering commitment to ongoing learning and effective leadership in her role as Superintendent of Schools," Board Chair Lorraine Stewart explained. "The Board is confident that, with Ms. Boyce continuing in her role as Superintendent, the Division will move forward positively as an environment where students and staff learn together and have opportunities to pursue their dreams."

Boyce's contract is currently up at the end of May 2024 and the board has now officially announced that they would like her to remain in the position until 2029.

"I am honoured and grateful that the Board of Trustees has reappointed me to this position," exclaimed Shauna Boyce, Superintendent of Schools at PSD. "Members of PSD continue to work diligently for the benefit of our students in the areas of curriculum, wellness, and building community. I am blessed to be working alongside them in these efforts."

Boyce has had a more than three-decade career in education so far and is thrilled to continue her work at Parkland School Division.

The superintendent began her career as a teacher in the division and her years of experience led her to this challenging role, which she continues to excel at.

"The Board has been impressed with Shauna's visionary leadership while also remaining focused on the day-to-day operations. The four priorities of the Division, that Ms. Boyce reports on regularly at Board meetings, includes Student & Workplace Wellness; Equity, Diversity & Community; Indigenous Perspectives and Ways of Knowing; and Programming and Pedagogy.  She has worked hard to bring leaders to the Division, in the Centre for Education and in our 23 schools, who can help achieve those priorities," explained Stewart. "Shauna's leadership and curiosity has been instrumental in the work of bringing Athabasca Delta Community Schools in Fort Chipewyan to Parkland School Division as an Interim Education Authority."

Stewart adds Boyce has led the Leadership Team in the difficult and complex conversations and discussions regarding recognizing and acknowledging bias in ourselves in order to move our Division forward in a positive manner.

The board believes there is a strong, positive and productive working relationship with Boyce and they are delighted to continue working with her as superintendent.
