Tuesday, March 7, 2023 - The Board of Trustees is pleased to share with all education stakeholders the highlights of our recent Board meeting held on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. The adopted minutes will be available on our website following the next Regular Board meeting.

Update:

Regular Board Meeting

  • The Board welcomed a delegation from both Brookwood School and Woodhaven Middle School who were present to sing the praises of the PSD Christian Program. The delegation included Principals Nealle Dickson (Woodhaven) and Karen Stride-Goudie (Brookwood) along with Grade 8 students Aram Almousa, Ella Keleman as well as Grade 3 students Theo Medeiros and Kinley Ryan along with parent Angele Medeiros. 
  • The Board approved the recommendation that recognizes the following individuals as Parkland School Division's Edwin Parr Nominees as outstanding first-year teachers:
    • Shae Careless - Millgrove School
    • Alyssa Dunbar - Athabasca Delta Community School
    • Krian Kawa - Graminia School
    • Morgan Kowalczyk - École Broxton Park School
    • Jenna Stumbur - Duffield School

And further, that the Board submits Jenna Stumbur's nomination to the Alberta School Boards Association Zone 2/3 Edwin Parr Selection Committee. 

  • The Board approved the amended start time to the upcoming Regular Board Meeting on Tuesday May 30, 2023 to avoid any scheduling conflicts with the Unified Games which will be hosted on the same day by PSD's own Memorial Composite High School. The new start time will be 12:30pm. 
  • The Board approved the recommendation from the School Naming Committee which, after extensive community engagement, will see the replacement school for Stony Plain Central School be named Westview School. 
  • The Board approved the Designation of Attendance Area: Pioneer (ASP) recommendation that the currently undesignated areas of the Pioneer Area Structure Plan (ASP), in the City of Spruce Grove, be designated to Prescott Learning Centre attendance boundaries effective the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year. Note: Existing residences that have been built here since the last Attendance Area Review already attend Prescott Learning Centre. 
  • The Board approved the 2023-2024 Fees and Allowances. Fee increases are required to operate the regional transportation system on a break-even basis. The fee increases are being proposed to offset Transportation’s anticipated increases in contractor rates due to inflation. These proposed fees are based on the current provincial funding model and adjustments may be required based on changes in provincial funding models. 
  • The Board approved the Three Year Capital Plan Submission. 
    • Year One (2023-2024)
      Priority One - Replacement of Spruce Grove Composite High School at a cost of $70-80 million dollars.
      Priority Two -  New K-9 (900 capacity) School in Spruce Grove (East Side).
    • Year Two (2024-2025)
      Priority One - Modernization of Tomahawk School at a cost of $2-3 million dollars.
      Priority Two - Modernization and preservation of Brookwood School at a cost of $12-16 million dollars.
    • Year Three (2025-2026)
      Priority One - Modernization and preservation of Forest Green School at a cost of $12-16 million dollars.
      Priority Two - New K-9 (900 capacity) School in Spruce Grove (West side). 
  • The Board received as information the 2022-2023 Infrastructure Maintenance Renewal (IMR)/Capital Maintenance Renewal (CMR) Expenditure Report
  • The Board received as information the Numeracy Report as presented by Division Principal, Numeracy and Achievement, Shaye Patras. 
  • The Board received as information, a report on the relocation of the Stony Plain and Spruce Grove Outreach campuses to land adjacent to École Broxton Park School in Spruce Grove. 

The next Regular Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 9:00 a.m.
