Tuesday, March 5, 2024 - The Board of Trustees is pleased to share with all education stakeholders the highlights of our recent Board meeting held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.

The adopted minutes will be available on our website following the next Regular Board meeting:

  • The Board welcomed a delegation from Woodhaven Middle School featuring staff and students promoting the Woodhaven Performing Arts. Principal Nealle Dickson was joined by Teacher Allison Refugia, as well as students Julia Nickel (Gr. 9), Kendra Shelton (Gr. 9), and Nehemiah Shessel (Gr. 8).
  • The Board approved the recommendation that recognizes Isabela Ramos as Parkland School Division's Edwin Parr Nominee as PSD's outstanding first-year teacher. And further, that the Board submits Isabela Ramos's nomination to the Alberta School Boards Association Zone 2/3 Edwin Parr Selection Committee. 
  • The Board approved the recommendation to nominate the Spruce Grove Rotary Community Partners Society for the Friends of Education Award sponsored by the Alberta School Boards Association, in recognition of their dedication and fundamental contribution to student education.
  • The Board approved the revised Board Policy 13:Appeals to the Board Regarding Student Matters. Key changes included:
    • Updates to language to better reflect Alberta Legislation under the Education Act;
    • Updates to format and language to add additional clarity; and
    • Addition of a schedule that highlights the appeal process.
  • The Board approved the 2024-2025 Fees and Allowances. Changes to Transportation’s fees were minimal as the fee changes made last year are anticipated to provide enough funding in conjunction with the Transportation grant process. Some school fees required adjustment, based on discussion with our schools, to keep up with inflationary increases.
  • The Board approved the appointment of MNP LLP as the auditors for Parkland School Division for a period of five years.
  • The Board approved the appointment of Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Labour Relations Committee. Trustees Lorraine Stewart, Aileen Wagner and Eric Cameron to be representatives on the committee.
  • The Board approved the Three Year Capital Plan Submission. 
    • Year One (2024-2025)
      Priority One - Replacement of Spruce Grove Composite High School at a cost of $78-90 million dollars.
      Priority Two -  New K-9 (900 capacity) School in Spruce Grove (East Side) at a cost of $25 million dollars.
    • Year Two (2025-2026)
      Priority One -Modernization and preservation of Brookwood School at a cost of $13-17 million dollars.
      Priority Two -Modernization and preservation of Forest Green School at a cost of $13-17 million dollars.
    • Year Three (2026-2027)
      Priority One -New K-9 (900 capacity) School in Spruce Grove (West side) at a cost to be determined. 
      Priority Two - Replacement of Parkland Village School at a cost to be determined. 
  • The Board received as information the 2023-2024 Infrastructure Maintenance Renewal (IMR)/Capital Maintenance Renewal (CMR) Expenditure Report
  • The Board received as information the Numeracy Report as presented by Division Principal, Numeracy and Achievement, Shaye Patras. 
  • The Board received as information the Stakeholder Engagement Report, as presented by Associate Superintendent, Scott M. Johnston. The report summarizes the feedback received from stakeholders, and includes all items shared for consideration, as received, up to February 22, 2024.

The next regular board meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at 9 a.m.
