Regular Board Meeting Highlights - October 27, 2020

The Board of Trustees is pleased to share with all education stakeholders the highlights of our recent Board meeting held on Tuesday, October 27, 2020. The adopted minutes will be available on our website following the next Regular Board meeting.
Update:
- The Board welcomed a delegation that included a collaborative team including Parkland School Division's Wellness Coordinator, Felicia Ochs, Forest Green Principal Nealle Dickson, Forest Green Grade 5 Teacher and staff Wellness Lead Lisa Meyer as well as Alberta School Employee Benefit (ASEBP) Workplace Wellness Consultant, Anita Rao. The presentation focused on the team's goal of creating healthy environments for staff including an upcoming series of virtual wellness sessions tailored for staff to discuss key areas of wellness with peers from across the Division. Human Resources Director Shae Abba also highlighted employee benefits available through the Homewood Health Employee and Family Assistance Program. (EFAP)
- The Board approved the Modular Classroom Program Request to be submitted to Alberta Education. The request includes:
- Prescott Learning Centre - 4 new modular classrooms and 1 new modular washroom unit;
- École Meridian Heights School - 6 new replacement modular classrooms to replace 6 existing units; and
- Millgrove School - 8 new replacement modular classrooms to replace 8 existing units.
- The Board received the October financial forecast. The document includes updated projections for the year ending August 31, 2021 and provides variance explanations for changes from the approved budget for 2021. The division is still forecasting a balanced budget with revenues of $134,425,788 (an increase of 2.1% over the fall budget) and expenditures of $134,425,788 (also an increase of 2.1% over the fall budget).
- The Board received as information, the Early Learning Assurance Report. The report highlights areas of focus in early education across the division as well as key changes to early education programming and supports from both the previous and current school years. Funding framework changes and special education coding criteria have led to a reduction and restructuring of early education supports and services. Though it may look different from past years, the Early Education Team has worked to maintain the integrity of early learning programming and remains focused on supporting the division’s youngest learners.
