RBC Foundation Funds Youth Mental Health Initiative

Parkland School Division is pleased to announce that its relationship with the RBC Foundation will continue to support children, youth and families in the 2020-2021 school year.

The RBC Foundation supports innovation in technology and navigation services for youth ages 13-24. “RBC is committed to supporting endeavours that empower organizations to make a difference and inspire others. In this spirit, we have partnered with our Global Asset Management team and [donated] $100,000 in support of the Community Navigation Project,” said Jerilynn Daniels, RBC’s Regional Director of Community Marketing and Citizenship.

Along with Parkland School Division, Family and Community Support Services (FCSS), WestView Health Centre, Achieving Community Together (ACT) and Alberta Health Services have been working as coalition partners for over two years to reduce systemic barriers that youth encounter when trying to access supports and services for mental health-related issues. The RBC Foundation’s $100,000 donation will enable PSD’s Wellness Initiative and its community partners to sponsor a regional youth mental health hub through their Community Navigation Project. “Community Navigation is designed to help youth and families in navigating all of the dynamic, committed services we have in this region by helping our partners work more closely together," said Felicia Ochs, PSD Wellness Coordinator.

The Community Navigation Project represents the ongoing commitment that Parkland School Division has to fostering meaningful Community Engagement and a strong Wellness Culture. "We know that mental health can be protected through universal programming that encourages physical activity, social connections and a nutritious diet. When our youth face mental health challenges, we have some of the most caring health professionals in the field ready to help - and this grant enables them to step closer into our schools to help our youth out where they spend most of their time," said Ochs.

Parkland School Division wishes to thank the RBC Foundation for their generous donation, and looks forward to seeing the Community Navigation Project’s initiatives come to life in our region.
