Winter Storm Warning - Buses Cancelled Tuesday

Monday, January 17, 2022 - The Environment Canada has issued a Winter Storm warning which will bring snow, freezing rain, strong winds, blowing snow and a rapid drop in temperatures to Central Alberta.

Strong northwest winds will develop with wind gusts up to 80km/h. Temperature drops of 10 to 15 degrees are possible in a short period of time. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will inevitably stay icy and slippery.

Out of an abundance of caution and to keep our students and staff safe, bus service for Tuesday January 18th has been cancelled. Please notify your child's school in the regular manner should you choose to keep them home.

New Learning Considerations have been amended in Administrative Procedure 750: Severe Weather. When bus service is cancelled, schools shall remain open for learning. Teaching and learning opportunities during transportation cancellation will vary depending on the number of students who are learning from home, balanced with the number of students who are able to attend school, and this may differ from class to class or grade to grade within schools across the Division.

As a reminder, if parents/guardians haven't already done so, they are strongly encouraged to download the Bus Status app for the latest on cancellations and delays to PSD's Regional Transportation system.

Bus Status App

Please note: In a cancellation or delay scenario, our Transportation Services will utilize a phone notification system to generate an automated message that says your child's bus route is affected. This is your cue to go to the Bus Status app which is strongly recommended. Alternatively, you can bookmark our bus stats page of our website.

Once downloaded to your mobile device, you can tap on the buses to find and star the buses you would like to receive status notifications for. This will show you which of your child's bus routes may be affected. That may be one or all buses if 'home' and 'transfer' buses are in play.
