Monday, February 26,2024 -

Parkland School Division will resume school bus services on Tuesday, February 27th, following significant snow removal efforts by the City of Spruce Grove, Town of Stony Plain, and Parkland County road crews. The collaborative work has made it possible to clear the way for the regional transportation system to operate again, ensuring students can return to their educational routines with minimal disruption.

Despite the progress made in clearing snow from the roads, officials acknowledge the challenges that the recent heavy snowfall presents. Not all roads are fully passable for school buses, particularly in some rural subdivisions within Parkland County. The difference in accessibility between larger buses and smaller family vehicles means adjustments are necessary to maintain the safety and efficiency of school transportation.

To address these issues, arrangements are being made for alternative pick-up locations on main arteries for students from areas where buses are at risk of becoming stuck. Some bus drivers will be in contact with families affected by these changes to provide details about the alternate pick-up sites. Residents that live in these affected areas, who are able to reach out to their bus drivers, are encouraged to do so in order to choose a suitable alternate stop.

The patience and understanding of parents, guardians, and students during this time are greatly appreciated. The primary goal is to deliver children to school safely while striving to keep the impact on regular routines to a minimum.
