Bus Driver Charged

27
Alert, Busing

February 27, 2024 -

Parkland School Division (PSD) would like to draw attention to a serious matter that is now before the courts and involves a bus driver who is employed by a contractor that operates bus routes for PSD. Safety and well-being of all students and staff in our schools is our highest priority, so we wanted to ensure all are informed. We are aware of criminal charges against this individual from ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit of possession, distribution, and accessing child pornography. Families on affected bus routes have been directly contacted.

Parkland School Division will not be addressing the media as a matter of respect for the court process. As stated in the ALERT release:

While the investigation and charges are related to online offences, the nature of Corbett’s employment placed him in a position of trust and authority. ICE is encouraging anyone with information about this case to come forward and contact police. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact local police or Crime Stoppers (1-800-222-TIPS).

The driver was removed from the route immediately and was suspended indefinitely by the bus contractor as soon as the contractor was made aware of the situation in early February. The bus driver in question has not been working since his arrest on February 7th.

Parkland School Division believes in being a caring and compassionate organization – guided by what’s in the best interest of our students. We are committed to providing safe and caring places for all students to learn.
