AP 450: Employee Long-Term Service Recognition

Background
The Superintendent demonstrates the belief that employees shall be recognized and honoured for long service. To this end, Parkland School Division shall maintain a Long-Term Service Recognition Program.
Procedures
1. Long-Term Service Recognition shall be provided by the Superintendent or designate to an employee at the completion of each five (5) year phase of employment:
1.1. The Superintendent or designate shall determine a consistent manner of recognition for employees commensurate with those employee’s years of experience.
2. Permanent and temporary employees shall be eligible for Long-Term Service Recognition in consideration of the following:
2.1. An employee shall qualify for Long-Term Service Recognition every five years in those years when the employee’s anniversary date occurs on or before September 30 of that year;
2.2. An employee who regains employment in the Division after a break in employment for any reason shall cumulatively resume their years of service;
2.3. Employees who are not in active service shall be exempt from recognition for years of service after two (2) years of the commencement of a leave.
3. An employee scheduled to receive a Long-Term Service Recognition may opt to have a donation-in-lieu made to charity in her or his name:
3.1. The employee opting for a donation-in-lieu shall inform the Division in advance of service recognition.
4. The Superintendent or designate shall provide direction with respect to exceptional situations.
