AP 450: Employee Long-Term Service Recognition

Background 

The Superintendent maintains an effective, annual system for long-term service recognition, in appreciation for the dedication of service by employees. 

Procedures 

1. Long-Term Service Recognition shall be provided by the Superintendent or designate to an employee at the completion of each five (5) year phase of employment; notably:

1.1. The Superintendent or designate shall determine a consistent manner of Long-Term Service recognition for employees that is commensurate with each employee’s years of service. 

 

2. Permanent and temporary employees shall be eligible for Long-Term Service Recognition, in consideration of the following:

2.1. An employee shall qualify for Long-Term Service Recognition every five (5) years, and in those years when the employee’s anniversary date occurs on or before June 30 of that year; 

2.2. An employee who regains employment in the Division, after a break in employment for any reason, shall cumulatively resume their years of service; and 

2.3. Employees who are not in active service shall be exempt from recognition for years of service after two (2) years of the commencement of a leave-of-absence. 

3. The Superintendent or designate shall provide direction with respect to exceptional situations regarding Long-Term Service Recognition.
