Background
The Superintendent demonstrates compassionate awareness that individuals respond to death in various way, ranging from appreciating public support to a preference for privacy. When situations warrant, it is proper to express condolences in memory of trustees, employees, students or the immediate family who pass away.
Procedures
1. The Superintendent has the authority:
1.1. To make decisions on the release of employees;
1.2. To make decisions with respect to the closure of work places; and
1.3. To respond with a formal expression of condolences in order to appropriately express respect for the family of the deceased.
2. Where prudent and respectful to do so, immediate supervisors or designates shall make every effort to attend visitations, funerals or memorial services for employees within their respective work areas.
