AP 224: Knowledge And Employability Program
Instruction & Assessment
Background
The Alberta Guide to Education notes that Knowledge and Employability (K&E) courses are designed for students who demonstrate reading, writing, mathematical and/or other levels of achievement two to three grades below their age-appropriate grade. The Superintendent supports the provision of K&E courses, where feasible, to provide students with opportunities to experience success and become well-prepared for employment, further studies, citizenship and lifelong learning.
Procedures
1. Knowledge and Employability courses may be offered in middle years and senior high schools where numbers warrant and where students and parents are informed about the nature and intent of the coursework.
2. Teachers shall follow the procedures outlined in the Guide to Education, in the K & E courses Handbook, and the expectations of Alberta Education K&E Programs of Study.
3. Principals shall order the correct number of K&E Provincial Achievement Tests for each of the respective K&E courses that are offered at their school.
