AP 312: Child Care

Organization & Culture

Background

Many families have the need for child care programs during the working day. As a public institution, school facilities are considered desirable sites for such programming.

Procedures

1. With the prior approval of the Superintendent, principals can develop and/or house child care programs, (such as before and/or after school programs, pre-school and/or play schools) provided:

1.1.  A community consultation supports the need;

1.2.  The program is compatible with curricular programs of the school; and

1.3.  Where there is space available for such programming.

2. Principals shall ensure that child care programs meet all licensing requirements described by the Alberta Child and Family Services Authority legislation and by municipal government policies.

3. The Associate Superintendent, Corporate Supports and Services and the school Principal shall:

3.1.  Clarify lease arrangements,

3.2.  Determine costs, and

3.3.  Clarify and ensure proper insurance.
