Background

Many families have the need for child care programs during the working day. As a public institution, school facilities are considered desirable sites for such programming.

Procedures

1. With the prior approval of the Superintendent, principals can develop and/or permit the on-site location of private child care programs, (such as before and/or after school programs, pre-school and/or play schools) provided:

1.1. A community consultation supports the need;

1.2. The program is compatible with curricular programs of the school; and

1.3. There is sufficient space available for child care programming.

2. Principals shall ensure that child care programs meet all licensing requirements described by the Early Learning and Child Care Act and by municipal government policies.

3. The Associate Superintendent, Corporate Supports and Services and the school Principal shall hold the responsibility for the clarification of lease arrangements, the final determination of costs, and the verification of proper insurance.
