Counsellors, Therapists & Wellness Workers Appreciation Week

It’s Counsellors, Therapists & Wellness Workers Appreciation Week at Parkland School Division (PSD).
Counsellors, therapists and wellness workers represent a diverse staff group at PSD. The group includes family support workers, Indigenous facilitators, occupational therapists, program facilitators, psychologists, school counsellors, social workers, speech-language pathologists, therapy assistants and others. The hard-working professionals are responsible for providing supports and services that strengthen students’ abilities to participate in educational activities. While roles within the staff group vary widely, each member is committed to a common purpose: improving the quality of life of children and youth. They also collaborate with community service providers to extend supports for students and families.
Tasks performed among the diverse and specialized roles within our counsellors, therapists and wellness workers staff group include:
- Assessing, diagnosing and treating behavioural, emotional and psychological challenges.
- Advising students on educational, personal and career-related issues.
- Building and maintaining positive and effective relationships between people of Indigenous cultures.
- Coordinating counselling services for students, parents and teachers.
- Enhancing social functioning and social environments.
- Helping individuals and families develop skills and resources.
- Helping students experiencing challenges due to injury, physical or mental illness, disability, a change in function, or barriers in the social and physical environment.
- Preventing, assessing, diagnosing and providing counselling and rehabilitation for communication and swallowing disorders.
- And so much more!
Thank you, counsellors, therapists & wellness workers! Your care and expertise make our schools a wonderful place to be.
