Inclement Weather, Transportation

December 20, 2022 - Bus service for Parkland School Division's regional transportation system will be suspended for a second day in a row on Wednesday, December 20, 2022. Extremely cold wind chill values hovering around minus 40 are expected. Environment Canada has issued an Extreme Cold Weather warning for the Parkland County region. According to Environment Canada, extremely cold wind chills are expected to continue through the week, especially overnights. A warming trend is expected by the weekend.

However, the bus in Fort Chipewyan serving students at Athabasca Delta Community School will be running.

The final decision to send a child to school rests with parents and guardians.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to follow their school's regular system for reporting an absence should they choose to keep their children at home. This is an important step to ensure that schools have an accurate record of who is in their care for the day.

Parents and guardians should ensure that students are dressed appropriately while traveling to and from school during inclement weather conditions. The temperatures can drop dramatically in the event of mechanical issues.

For more on the topic of Severe Weather, please familiarize yourself with Administrative Procedure 750: Severe Weather.

We apologize for any inconvenience. At Parkland School Division, we are a caring and compassionate organization, guided by what’s in the best interest of our students, and their safety is our top priority.
